Across the Universe ist das dritte Klavier-Solo Album von Thilo Schölpen. Wie schon die vorhergehenden Programme "kraftwerk-klavier" und "Piano Diary" entspringt auch dieses Album seiner Affinität zu Beatnik,
New Wave, elektronischer Musik und Avantgarde. Schon die Titel der Stücke und die Gestaltung des Album Covers verweisen dezent auf popkulturelle Zusammenhänge.
Mit Leichtigkeit und hypnotischer Tiefe entführt er mit seiner Musik auf eine kurzweilige Reise, bei der Reggae auf melancholische Melodien trifft oder ein leicht afrikanischer Rhythmus an Damon Albarn erinnert. Es ist Klaviermusik die nicht in erster Linie das Klavier in den Vordergrund stellt, sondern vielmehr die Komposition, die auch von einer Band oder elektronisch orchestriert gespielt werden könnte .

Thilo Schölpen (geb.1966 in Orsoy, lebt in Düsseldorf) studierte Jazz-Klavier an der Amsterdamse Hogeschool voor de Kunsten. Seine Musik ist inspiriert von Beatnik, Film Noir, Free Jazz, Fluxus, New Wave, Avantgarde, Pop-Art und Neue Musik.
